Two New Picture Books

It’s been a while since my last book for young ‘uns, and I know my daughter will be happy, for one, because she keeps asking me when she’ll be old enough to read Girl, Aloud (“in about five years” really doesn’t cut it with a six year old). Now available for pre-order from Amazon, these picture books, published by Parragon, will be available in the UK, US and Australia. I haven’t seen them since manuscript stage so the “sparkly surprise” really will be!

Josie, aged six, is a very particular little girl – as in, very particular about things going her way. She’s determined, occasionally bossy, loves competition, has left almost all of her babyness behind her but still has the odd tantrum when her high expectations are dashed (by anything from bad weather to her happy but troublesome little sister, Lily). But the great thing about Josie is that she never runs out of Big Ideas.

It's Josie's birthday and she couldn't be happier...until something threatens to ruin her party.

Josie's annoying next door neighbour sets her a challenge - can her little sister do better tricks than his dog? Josie is determined to win. But will Lily play along?

  1. I love those gorgeous girlie covers! Your daughter is going to be thrilled to take these in for ‘show and tell’

  2. Yes I think she might! Though she has writing ambitions of her own, too (last I heard, a spin-off series of The Rainbow Fairies…I think she’s a bit more marketing savvy than I!).

  3. Aw, these are gorgeous! I want them! I am so buying them. Congratulations!

  4. Very exciting, can’t wait to read them myself, Josie sounds very much like a little girl I know! Well done you!

  5. My granddaughter-to-be (August 2010) will be named Emily Gale. I discovered this wonderful author by googling that name. I have already purchased the seven books for young children that I was able to find, and I see that I now have two more to buy. I love the books!

  6. Thank you, what a kind comment!

  7. Hi discovered your wonderful books by chance in toys r us today. Are you sure you don’t know my daughter :-)

She is six and called Josie (not short for anything). She is exactly as you describe in your books.

Please let me know if there are more than two in the series as I’ve never found anything with her name on before and I know this will make her Christmas after the horrendous few months we as a family have suffered. (major house flood so after living in a hotel we are now in a rental for at least another few months – and have lost most of our posessions/kids toys).

    Thanks for great books.

  8. Dear Michelle,
Thank you so much for your message. It gives me a wonderful feeling to imagine your real-life Josie identifying with my Josie. I’m sorry to tell you that these are the only two Josie stories and I don’t know of any plans to publish more, so I just really hope that your daughter enjoys them and that you all have a great Christmas.
With best wishes for a happy 2012,
    Emily

  9. Fab. My daughter josie is ginger as well just like just josie. She will love them for Christmas. Can’t wait for them to arrive. Thanks.

  10. Dear Mandy,
Thanks so much for dropping in and I really hope your Josie enjoys the books. Have a great Christmas.

  11. Hi Emily
Thank you for your lovely message. Our Josie absolutely loves her ‘Josie’ books. This weeks homework is to take in your favourite book from home. Guess which she took? The Josie is 7 (as she will be turning 7 in June).

Thanks once again (you have made a little girl very happy).

    Cheers
    Michelle

  12. Hi Michelle (and hi Josie),

That’s brilliant, thanks for letting me know. I wonder if your Josie will write some of her own Just Josie stories…

    Take care,

    Emily
