‘You’ve got the likeability factor, Kassidy,’ says Dad.

‘The what?’ says Raff.

‘It’s what Simon says. Likeability. It’s even more important that having a good voice – and Kassidy has got it.’

My brother comes over to me.

‘This Kassidy?’ he says. ‘Err, she only has two friends. How is she likeable?’

He’s right, but I’d still like to hit him.

GIRL, ALOUD

Kass Kennedy is in trouble. Her manically up-and-down dad has finally lost it – he’s entered her for The X Factor. This would be slightly less of a crisis if:

a) she could sing

b) any tiny bit of her wanted to be a star, and

c) she hadn’t lost her two best friends over a boy in brown boots.

Somehow Kass must get out of it with her sanity, friendships and family still intact.

  • Emily: Thanks for stopping by, Jackie. I don’t know if I’m more disturbed by adder...
  • Jackie: Terrific interview, I learned a lot, not just about Lisa herself, but about the elements...
  • Emily: It was about the happiest I’ve ever been to be awake at 3, I must say. E. x
  • Fiona Wood: Beautiful!
  • Emily: Funny but inaccurate, my friend. The tiny kitten is more of a Burt Lancaster or a Tom...
